The operating system Linux known by its famous Penguin mascot was developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991. Today he works for the Linux Foundation maintaining the Linux kernel which is often falsely interpreted as the operating system. The advantage of Linux is that it is open source and very fast. It's license allows you to change it, program it differently, and redistribute it - that is called open source. Many posts in my blog and even the blog itself would not exist if Linux would not exist. Linux is available for many different types of devices such as PCs (i.e. openSUSE), mobile phones (i.e. Android which is based on Linux) or network routers. For routers there is OpenWrt which is widely mentioned here.
